The Arts & Crafts Movement, circa 1910, marked a return to natural materials and natural designs. It had its own architecture. There are numerous examples in Olympia and Seattle. These homes were decorated with very stylistic textiles. While working at Craftsman Farms (former home of Gustav Stickley), I was able to do in-depth studies of such textiles. During our first meeting, we will view a number of slides and see many examples. We will discuss the factors that go into this decorative art. We will then practice some of the very simple embroidery stitches and discuss simple designs. The second time we meet, each person will work on their own 17”x 20” pre-hemstitched, linen placement. Design, colors, techniques and threads will be formulated and set up for each person. You can use your own design idea or choose from those offered. Bring screw-type 4” embroidery hoop, small scissors to clip threads, larger scissors to cut fabric, straight pins if you have them
